Singing The Same Old Love Song
When love begins to find a new home.
You swooped in.
Stuffed my face with a box full of chocolates
“Not the inexpensive kind this time”, you winked.
Our glasses clinked.
My shoe got soaked in champagne.
“Showering you with all my love, head to toe”, you joked
And on we marched into the night!
Upchucking old memories, our silly old fights
And all the giggles we had been holding in
For over half a decade too long.
Laughter, like glowworms, melting into the night
Like a long forgotten love song,
And just like that, the night passed
And our stories creeped into the dawn.
You laughed, called me a day-time Cinderella
As I startled and rush to go back home.
I saw your arm, draped over my pillow
Your sunlit half-smile holding my heart so dear
I stayed on.
And just like that, the week passed
And love began to find a new home.
“She left me”, you confided
“Never answered any of my calls.”
“He never loved me”, I confessed
“In the end, I didn’t matter at all.”
Looking at the lost pieces, forgotten places of our hearts
Carefully, untangling the years from our past
Laughing. Crying. Marvelling. At the hurts caused by others
And those that we brought on.
And just like that, love begins to happen again
And so, we carried on.
Remember the first time we met?
How we discussed astronomy all night long.
You wondered then if it was a sign of things to come
Now you tell me it was written in the stars all along.
Your voice, your ways
Burning rivers in my brain.
The landscape now a different game
You and me, different people
Back to being the same.
Bereft from a life left un-shared
Our dreams. Our love. The aches and pains.
From all we saw and lived alone
We find ourselves in eachother again
We find a world we can finally call home.
Old souls… Long-lost friends
Star-crossed lovers off and on.
Here we are, yet again
Aware at last, of what we know
What we have known all along.
To eachother we have always been
A gift of love that was never quite gone.
Like a lost reel, found again
We begin to play
And start singing
The same old love song.
